This is the Kind of Sex Education I wish I had.
Newsletter No. 10 - July 22, 2025
Let’s discuss something that should have been foundational to our education: the intricate connections within our bodies, the transformative power of sexual energy, and the truth that we are designed for pleasure.
Traditional sex education, as many of us experienced it, is reductive at best. It focuses on the mechanics of reproduction and the prevention of STDs and pregnancy, often framed in a way that fosters fear and shame. It isolates sex from the broader context of what it means to be a breathing, feeling, and fully alive human being.
And in the absence of meaningful education, many turn to pornography as a substitute. It distorts intimacy, misrepresents arousal, and fails to illuminate the deeper truths about connection, pleasure, and the profound role of sexual energy in our lives.
Here’s what we were never taught:
The human body is a symphony of interconnected systems. This is evident in the relationship between the throat, jaw, and yoni (vaginal canal/uterus/vulva).
When tension resides in the throat and jaw, it often manifests as tension in the yoni. Conversely, relaxation and openness in one can unlock the other. This connection is not merely metaphorical—it is physiological, energetic, and deeply profound.
Notice the similarity in the anatomy of the uterus/vagina and the larynx. I will often visualize the two softening and connecting in harmony.
Consider the role of breast massage:
The nerve endings in the breasts (2nd-6th intercostal nerves) are exquisitely sensitive to touch and send signals to the hypothalamus.
This stimulates the release of oxytocin, often referred to as the “love hormone,” which plays a pivotal role in fostering connection, regulating sexual desire, and promoting a sense of well-being.
The skin, our largest organ, is a vast network of sensory receptors capable of translating the lightest touch into waves of sensation.
The clitoris, with over 10,000 nerve fibers (more than any other part of the human body), is a testament to the body’s capacity for pleasure.
We are rarely encouraged to explore or celebrate this. Instead, societal conditioning often instills shame, guilt, or embarrassment around our natural capacity for pleasure.
Reclaiming this understanding is not indulgent—it is essential.
Sexual energy, often referred to as life force energy, is the same energy that fuels our passions, drives our creativity, and deepens our connection to ourselves and others. When we suppress this energy, we suppress a vital part of ourselves. But when we nurture and reclaim it, we unlock a wellspring of potential that can transform every aspect of our lives.
As a coach, I see the consequences of this lack of education every day.
Most of the clients I work with struggle with:
Deep feelings of shame around their sexuality.
A sense of being inadequate or "broken."
Difficulty experiencing orgasm or fully enjoying intimacy.
Feeling numbness and/or disconnection to their body.
Discomfort in talking about sex with their partner.
The isolating belief that they are the only ones who feel this way.
So, how do we begin to reconnect with this energy and reclaim our inherent capacity for pleasure?
It all begins with the breath.
In my Rolfing practice, I’ve seen time and again that when the breath is restricted, nothing else flows. Circulation stagnates, tissues become dehydrated, and the body struggles to integrate. Breath is the foundation of vitality, and it is the gateway to unlocking energy and pleasure.
From there, we can incorporate additional tools:
Sound: Vocalization tones the vagus nerve, amplifies pleasure, and deepens the connection between body and mind.
Movement: Frees the body from the constraints of repression, activates turn-on, and restores fluidity to sexual expression.
Mindfulness: Anchors us in the present moment, allowing us to fully experience every sensation and emotion without judgment.
These practices are not merely about sex—they are about reclaiming your power, your creativity, and your connection to yourself.

It’s been a hot summer here in Abruzzo. We have been heading to the coast for easy bike rides and salty water.
We have also been escaping the heat by getting up high in the fresh air. This is on Monte Murelle in the Maiella. (Not pictured: many baby camosci.)
