Love is Your Superpower

Newsletter No. 4- April 15, 2025

Welcome to this week's newsletter, where we take a moment to reflect, connect, and lean into the transformative power of love. This isn’t just about love for others, but the kind of radical, unshakable self-love that has the power to heal, empower, and help you thrive—even in life’s most difficult moments.

Learning to Love Myself

When I was 14, I began experiencing symptoms of an autoimmune liver disease that would remain undiagnosed for more than a decade. Those years were overwhelming—to say the least. I lived in fear and shame, feeling unworthy and “different” from the people around me. Imagine being a young girl, constantly being poked and prodded by doctors, wondering what was wrong with her body.

At 25, I was finally given a diagnosis of autoimmune hepatitis, and while it brought relief, it also added another layer of shame. My body wasn’t just sick; it was attacking itself. That realization was devastating. It was also a gift.

Despite all of this, my life blossomed. I dove deep into alternative medicine, healed my liver without conventional drugs, and became a masterful bodyworker. But above all, the most profound lesson I’ve learned, and continue to learn, is this: Radical self-love is the most powerful medicine there is.

Every day, I continue to practice this lesson. I’ve realized that self-love is not a destination, but an ongoing relationship with oneself, especially with the parts of us that feel flawed or unworthy.

Springtime runs bring me such joy, especially when I spot the vibrant wild orchids blooming nearby. Their uniqueness stands out, and I often think how dull it would be if every flower tried to mimic the others, hiding its individuality out of fear of not fitting in. There’s a profound beauty and strength in honoring what makes us distinct, in celebrating the essence that is truly our own.

Why Love is Your Superpower

Thriving in life doesn’t come from simply doing more or achieving more. At our core, we thrive when we feel loved, safe, and that we belong. When these foundational needs are unmet, we often experience fear, disconnection, or suffering.

According to Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs, love, safety, and belonging sit at the heart of our human experience. They allow us to evolve, connect, and step into our highest potential. And guess what? You have the power to give those things to yourself.

When you love yourself deeply, you create a sense of safety within your body and mind, reprogram old stories that tell you you’re unworthy, and meet your own needs in ways no one else can. Whether it’s healing past wounds, reclaiming your sexual vitality, or stepping more confidently into your relationships, the gateway is always love.

When I look at it, I can vividly reconnect with the sense of safety and deep love I was able to create within my nervous system. This image serves as a gentle reminder of the profound transformation and embodiment of self-compassion I experienced in that moment.

How to Begin Cultivating Radical Self-Love

You might be wondering, "Where do I even start?" Building radical self-love is like peeling layers of an onion. You slowly remove the stories, conditioning, and traumas that made you feel like you weren’t enough.

Here are some actionable steps you can take today to start this practice of reprogramming love into your life:

  1. Notice Your Triggers: Observe where you feel resistance, fear, or shame, and instead of reacting harshly, meet these moments with a deep breath and self-compassion.

  2. Rewire the Narrative: Rewrite the stories you’ve told yourself. For example, if you’ve internalized the belief that ‘desire is shameful,’ choose a new narrative like, ‘Desire is beautiful and a natural expression of myself.’

  3. Reconnect with Your Body: Your soma-body is incredibly wise. Tune into what it’s telling you through sensations, emotions, and intuitions. Practices like breathwork, meditation, and movement will help you reconnect and feel grounded.

  4. Build a Supportive Community: Find people or spaces that value and celebrate all parts of you. Surrounding yourself with supportive and loving energy creates a ripple effect that fosters even more self-love.

  5. Start Small: Remember, self-love isn’t about changing things overnight. Start with small, intentional acts that make you feel cherished.

How Radical Self-Love Can Transform Your Life

Whether you’re seeking success in your career, deeper intimacy in your relationships, or peace within yourself, self-love is the key. When you meet yourself with kindness and compassion, you begin to remove the fear and shame stored in your body. This is where the magic happens.

Imagine waking up each day feeling empowered, loved, and ready to take on the world—not because someone else told you that you’re enough, but because you believe it.

Spending time outdoors, discovering the beauty of my surroundings, and moving my body feels like an act of deep self-love. The Orfento Valley is truly breathtaking right now. The water flows with a vibrant energy, its color a striking shade of blue I’ve rarely encountered in rivers. This valley, alive with lush greenery and pure, crystalline waters, draws countless species to its sanctuary. It’s a reminder of just how interconnected we are with nature and how rejuvenating it is to connect with the world around us.

"I have worked with Hanni for half a decade. First as a ROLF client in her Middlebury, VT studio and then as one of her first remote VITA coaching students after she moved to Italy. I first visited her because I had pain in my shoulder and later a pain in my foot. Those pains are now gone. She taught me how to walk and trust the ground could hold my weight. She has extraordinary knowledge of the body, the secrets it keeps and how to move through the world with a lighter step. " -Z.J.
